Backgammon is one of the oldest known board games, with a history spanning nearly 5,000 years, originating from ancient Mesopotamia. This two-player game involves each player moving fifteen pieces (checkers) across twenty-four triangles (points) based on the roll of two dice. The goal is to be the first to bear off, moving all fifteen checkers off the board.

Backgammon belongs to the tables family, one of the oldest categories of board games.
